A poll, of sorts

I'm embarking on a very big decision and I would like you all to weigh in. I am considering donating my eggs. Ed and I have just starting talking about it and we've come up with our own list of pros and cons. But I would really like to hear what you have to say about it. Please be totally honest and feel free to play devil's advocate. Just don't be cruel as we wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. Thanks ladies!!!

Just to clarify after Katie's comment...we don't have any frozen snowbabies left (as many of you know) so I would do a fresh IVF cycle up to the egg retrieval (if that makes any difference in your comments).

Mike and I have talked about this if we end up on that route. So these thoughts are "my thoughts not in the situation", they might change if I'm in the situation. I would want to donate them. I know how much it sucks to struggle with IF and know that my eggs might help some couple that couldn't produce their own.

But the flip side is that somewhere out there would be a child running around that is half yours biologically (this is the reason Mike didn't like the idea). I would probably always wonder about them. But I wouldn't want them destroyed. It's a tough decision.

I hope that God gives you guidance during your decision process and know that I support you with whatever you decide.

Are you planning to keep a couple for yourself and donate the rest? Or are you just interested in donating to help others? Depending on your plans, I think it could be a win-win situation for you & Ed as well as another couple desperately wanting a child, or a completely selfless act as you can empathize with other women struggling with IF.

I have absolutely no real advice tonight since I'm out of words for the day, if I think of anything else, I'll let you know. Either way, I think you're amazing.

M - I too think you are amazing no matter what. And what an amazing thing for you to think of doing. I used to get tied up in the genetics. This process has totally changed my outlook. You may think about the eggs/the resulting children the rest of your life but you also may think about giving them the ability to live and be part of a family, which is a beautiful thing.
